The 81-year-old Wolf found the word 'plantation' offensive and decided to remove it himself, according to TMZ .
Wolf previously lobbied the homeowners association for months on the issue, but according to the police report, he did so himself on November 30.
Wolf, who coined the phrase 'let's go to the videotape,' was allegedly recorded committing the act of vandalism by a security camera.
He turned himself in on Thursday and was released on $5,000 bond.
