Conflicting reports say Indiana is the meth capitol of the United States. I don’t know about that but it will certainly persuade you to make some bad decisions!
An Indiana woman attempted to hire a hit man to kill the person she says scammed her, according to federal investigators. But that "hit man" turned out to be… you guessed it, an undercover FBI agent.
An anonymous tip to the Henry County Sheriff's Office in May informed authorities that Tisha Dawn Raines had solicited a hit man to murder a scammer, who she believed lived in another state. Deputies forwarded the information to the FBI because it crossed state lines.
FBI agents set up a meeting between Raines and an undercover officer posing as a hit man. Agents say Raines told them the man had scammed her out of some money. Reports go on to say she was willing to pay $5,000 for the job and then proceeded to hand the undercover agent nearly an ounce of methamphetamine as down payment!!
The man she wanted killed was a victim, himself. A scammer who targeted Raines had stolen that man's identity then used it to create a fake online profile.
That identify theft victim agreed to stage his own death in order to make it look like the job had been completed. Agents took pictures of a fake murder scene and sent them to Raines, but she said she didn't know who the man in the photos was.
Raines is being held in the Marion County Jail with no bond.
