McCain, who was shot down over North Vietnam in October of 1967, was immediately captured and transported to Hỏa Lò Prison, better known as the Hanoi Hilton. Although he was badly injured, he received no medical treatment from his captors until it was discovered he was the son of a U.S. Navy Admiral.
John McCain passed away this week, one day after halting his treatment for brain cancer. He was 81.
