Using a sliding scale of sorts, each state can award the title of “most dangerous bridge in the state”.
Every state has a minimum of one structurally unsound, which the US Department of Transportation (DOT) defines as when one or more key bridge components (for example, the deck, superstructure, or substructure) is in "poor" condition.
Our number one dangerous bridge just happens to be one of the busiest… the I65 bridge crossing New York Street in downtown Indy! SEE PHOTO BELOW.
There are 185 million daily crossings on nearly 56,000 structurally deficient US bridges, according to the American Road and Transportation Builders Association.
