Elton John was disappointed after attempting to put on a show in Auckland, New Zealand when he discovered that his illness hindered him from performing. The pop star explained via twitter that he’d been diagnosed with walking pneumonia that morning (February 16). While putting on his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour, Elton was able to deliver a two hour performance before his voice began to give out. Video captured the frustrated singer as he stood and wept for a moment before concert staff pulled him off of the stage.
“I want to thank everyone who attended the #EltonFarewellTour gig in Auckland tonight,” Elton wrote on Twitter after the performance.
“I was diagnosed with walking pneumonia earlier today, but I was determined to give you the best show humanly possible.”
He opened up that he gave the performance all he had.
"I was determined to give you the best show humanly possible," he wrote. "I played and sang my heart out, until my voice could sing no more. I’m disappointed, deeply upset and sorry. I gave it all I had."
Elton’s admission was welcomed with love and support from fan thanking him for still putting on an extraordinary show.
“Elton, tonight you were incredible. To perform the way you did, was just indescribable - the fact you continued to push through and sing (and sing incredibly) even when you couldn’t talk is just phenomenal. Thank you for everything, you are a true inspiration,” twitter user @caitIinmargaret wrote. \
Another user commented that his fans would prefer his good health over a performance.
“You're a true artist, and your fans would rather see you get healthy than have you damage your health. Love and healing energy coming to you from the US Left Coast.”
Elton tweeted another message to his fans thanking them for sharing their love.
“Thank you so much for your extraordinary support and all the love you showed me during tonight’s performance. I am eternally grateful. Love, Elton xx.”
