Mark Patrick on Meeting Mrs. Bush

From Mark Patrick's Facebook Page:

I was in Fort Wayne doing a lottery show in the mid-90s. At the hotel where were staying, as I watched the elevator doors within inches of closing, 2 suited arms came through, prying them open. It was straight from a movie. Two Secret Service guys, talking into their sleeves, escort Barbara Bush onto the elevator. She was incredibly personable and complimentary to me. Less than a minute, but I was so impressed. Fast forward to the 2005 World Series. I was standing behind the batting cage in Houston when another Secret Service agent approached me. He said, “Mr. Patrick, President Bush would like to say hello.” I looked around to see who was playing the joke...but only saw George HW Bush give me a wave to come over. He tells me he enjoyed hearing our baseball show on XM radio. I was floored. Then Mrs. Bush says hello. I mention we’ve already met in an elevator in Fort Wayne, Indiana several years ago. She said, “I remember that.” I’m thinking she’s just being very polite. Then she said, “I told you how much I liked your tie!” I was floored. That’s exactly what she had said. So classy. Love or hate the politics of the Bush family, I believe her legacy will be that of a tremendous First Lady and thoughtful humanitarian.
