Alessia Cara bid farewell to her teen years on Monday (July 11) when she celebrated her 20th birthday with the release of her brand-new music video for "Scars To Your Beautiful."
"Scars To Your Beautiful," which serves as the third single off her debut, Know-It-All, finds the singer/songwriter spreading strong messages of self-love and acceptance. To emphasize the concept, Alessia made sure that the visual for the cut included appearances from transgender individuals, cancer survivors and other folks with visible/non-visible scars. Make sure you stick around until the end for a very special message from Alessia.
Cara's new tune joins a batch of pop empowerment tunes like TLC's "Unpretty" and Christina Aguilera's "Beautiful," but the budding singer made sure to bring her own individuality to the table. "A couple of female artists have done it in the past, and I wanted to put my own spin on it because I feel like you can never have too many reminders and too many songs talking about those things," she told Cosmopolitan.com. "It was important to put that in my own words and remind people that they are beautiful no matter what."
Pop fans will also notice a cameo from JoJo, who shows up throughout the video. "A lot of the time, people don't realize that public figures have these insecurities too," she said of the star-studded appearance. Alessia is set to unleash the debut performance on the July 19th episode of "Late Night with Seth Meyers."
In additional to the video release, Alessia also recently announced dates for her "Know-It-All Part Two Tour," which kicks off on September 29th and features special guest Ruth B.
