Sunday Drivers: 1971 Indy 500 Pace Car Crash

Sometimes the spills and thrills on the Indianapolis 500 happen off the track! Eldon Palmer was a car dealer in Indiana. He drove the brand new off the line 1971 Dodge Challenger (major bad ass as you can see) as the pace car for the Indy 500 that year. Palmer has set up a traffic cone in pit lane as a marker to show himself where to start slowing the car. But someone moved the cone away, Palmer hit the brakes too late, spun out and slammed the car into a temporary grandstand with photographers.
