It's a new era for the Los Angeles Clippers. New owner Steve Ballmer rallied thousands of Clippers diehards at a fan event at Staples Center Monday.
Wearing a blue Clippers cap, an enthusiastic Ballmer promised to bring NBA titles to a franchise that has seen more than its fair share of down seasons during Donald Sterling's ownership. The former Microsoft CEO also said he will not be moving the team to Seattle, saying he loves Seattle but "I'll enjoy beating the former Seattle basketball team."
He even gave out his email address to the crowd and encouraged that they email him with questions. For the record, it's firstname.lastname@example.org. And he prefers to be called Steve, not Mr. Ballmer.
Clippers head coach Doc Rivers and star players Chris Paul and Blake Griffin were among those who also took part in Monday's rally. The players thanked the fans for their support over the last few months during the uproar that cost Sterling his ownership of the team. Sterling remains banned from the NBA for life after recorded comments he made disparaging African-Americans were made public.
